Volá sa Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy), je policajt a... Ťažko povedať, čo je v jeho prípade nebezpečnejšie - či jeho rýchla reč, svojské vyšetrovacie metódy alebo presná muška. Isté je, že patrí k najlepším detektívom detroitského policajného oddelenia. Keď jedného dňa zavraždia jeho priateľa Mikeyho Tandina (James Russo) a nadriadený odmietne prípad Axelovi zveriť, vezme si dovolenku a vyrazí do Beverly Hills, kde Mike pracoval v sklade Bentonovej galérie. Jeho výrečnosť mu síce zaistí ubytovanie v luxusnom hoteli, ale vyšetrovanie mu už od počiatku značne komplikujú miestni policajti, predovšetkým seržant John Taggart (John Ashton) a jeho partner William „Billy“ Rosewood (Judge Reinhold). Napriek tomu sa Axelovi podarí zistiť, že Benton pašuje do zeme drogy. Nedá sa preto zastaviť ani vyhrážkami a útokmi zločincov, ani nepočúva príkazy policajtov a je odhodlaný Bentona odhaliť a odovzdať spravodlivosti za každú cenu. (TV Markíza)
