Roku 1942 havaruje americký pilot Steve Trevor (Lyle Waggoner) na neznámém ostrově, kterýžto je obýván jen a pouze ženami - Amazonkami. Ty jsou z příchodu muže na "Rajský ostrov" zaskočené a chtějí ho co nejdříve poslat pryč - i tak si ale vyslechnou jeho příběh a jsou přímo šokovány hrůzami 2. světové války. Královna Hippolyta (Carolyn Jones) se proto rozhodne, že vítězka Olympijských her doprovodí Stevea do jeho rodné země a pomůže se zlem bojovat - a onou vítězkou není nikdo jiný než dcera královny Diana (Lynda Carter). Ta ve svém neviditelném letadle dopraví mladého Američana do jeho vlasti a za pomoci své nadlidské síly, lasa pravdy a „kouzelných náramků" je ochotna čelit nacistům a jinému bezpráví - stává se superhrdinkou jménem Wonder Woman.
