Celým jménem Lynda Jean Córdova Carter se narodila v arizonském Phoenixu jako nejmladší ze tří sourozenců. Její otec Colby je irsko-amerického původu, matka Juana je mexická imigrantka. Ačkoliv Lynda sama španělsky nemluví, dobře španělsky rozumí a je pyšná na svůj mexický původ. V dětství byla vášnivou čtenářkou komiksů Wonder Woman.
