Je rok 1634, děj začíná v Quebecu v Severní Americe. Toto území je postupně zaplavováno francouzskými kolonialisty a misionáři. Jedni touží po moci a bohatství, druzí by rádi převrátili původní indiánské obyvatele na křesťanskou víru ve snaze o své vlastní spasení. Tento film vypráví, zřejmě podle dochovalých zápisů, o střetu dvou zcela odlišných civilizací a tedy i odlišném pohledu na podstatu života a jeho chápání. Zpočátku pouze lehce dobrodružný příběh postupně graduje do drsných a krutých praktik zacházení indiánských kmenů s misionáři, tedy s nežádoucími vetřelci. (Kimon)
