Na exotickém ostrově číhá vrah. Jen Hercule Poirot může odhalit pravého viníka... Pojišťovací společnost pověří Hercula Poirota, aby ověřil pravost diamantu, který chce jeho nová majitelka rozmarná a krásná herečka Arlena Marshallová pojistit. Poirot se musí za ní vydat do luxusního hotelu na jednom středomořském ostrově, kde si Arlena momentálně užívá líbánky se svým nejnovějším manželem, kapitánem Kennethem Marshallem. Brzy zjistí, že Arlenu nenávidí každý z návštěvníků. Netuší, že zanedlouho v tiché zátoce najdou Arleninu mrtvolu. Každý má údajně alibi, ale jeden z návštěvníků je vrah. Kdo z nich lže?
