Vojnový Bardejov je počas druhej svetovej vojny v područí Hlinkových gárd, keď vydajú ďalší nový príkaz. Všetky nevydaté židovské dievčatá z mesta sa bez výnimky majú prihlásiť k práci v továrni na topánky na východe. Židovský rabín a vinár Refuel Lowy (Robert Davi) však zistí, že žiadna továreň na topánky v skutočnosti neexistuje a dievčatá budú odvezené do Osvienčimu.
