V roce 1665 v Anglii nemilosrdně zuřil mor: obětí moru se stala i Grace (Charlotte Kirk) a její manžel Joseph Haverstock (Joe Anderson). Jakmile je mladá matka sama se svým dítětem, objeví se špinavý panoš Pendleton (Steven Waddington) a snaží se prosadit. To se ale nepodaří a uražený panoš zuřivě šíří mezi obyvateli fámu, že Grace je čarodějnice. Poté, co rozzuřený dav zajme neškodnou Grace, je okamžitě informován známý inkvizitor Moorcroft (Sean Pertwee), který kdysi upálil Graceinu matku jako čarodějnici.
