Všetko, po čom Klára túži, je kľúč – jedinečný kľúč, ktorý otvorí skrinku so vzácnym darom od jej zosnulej matky. Zlatá niť, ktorú dostane od svojho krstného otca Drosselmeyera (Morgan Freeman), ju ku kľúču zavedie, lenže kľúč okamžite zmizne vo fantastickom a tajomnom paralelnom svete. Tam sa Klára stretne s vojakom-luskáčikom Filipom, myšacou armádou a regentmi, ktorí spravujú tri kráľovstvá: Krajinu snehu, Krajinu kvetov a Krajinu sladkostí.
