Černá napínavá komedie Alfreda Hitchcocka o tom, co všechno se může stát, když se bohatá žena rozhodne najmout podvodníčka a falešnou spiritualistku, aby našli jejího nezvěstného synovce. Bruce Dern a Barbara Harris se zde představí jako mazaný pár švindlířů snažící se obrat starou lady o pěknou hromádku peněz tím, že najdou jejího ztraceného dědice (William Devane). Mezitím zlodějský klenotník (Devane) a jeho krásná přítelkyně (Karen Black) unesou řeckého rejdařského magnáta kvůli výkupnému.
