Catherine a Matthew Parkerovci (Nicole Kidman a Joseph Fiennes) sú noví obyvatelia púštneho mestečka Nathgari v Austrálii. Ich životy však čelia hlbokej kríze potom, čo zistia, že ich dve tínedžerské deti Tommy (Hugo Weaving) v spolupráci s obyvateľmi zaháji pátranie, ktoré čoskoro odhalí náznaky, že s Tommym a Lily sa stalo niečo hrozné. Klebety sa šíria a podozrenia voči sebe navzájom prehlbujú, až sa verejná mienka nakoniec obráti proti samotným Parkerovcom. Teplota v okolitej krajine je na vzostupe a šance detí na prežitie sa každým dňom znižujú. Cathetrine a Matthew musia siahnuť až na dno svojich síl a prekonať vzájomné podozrenia v snahe prežiť a vyriešiť záhadu osudov ich detí. (Incantator)
