V roku 1984 boli Amanda (Michelle Monaghanová) a Dawson (James Marsden) spolužiakmi na strednej škole. Pochádzali z odlišných sociálnych pomerov, no aj napriek tomu medzi nimi vznikla osudová láska. Meštiacka spoločnosť im ju však nedopriala. Sklamaná Amanda odišla študovať na vysokú školu a Dawsona zavreli do väzenia. Nevideli sa celé štvrťstoročie, až kým sa nestretli na pohrebe spoločného priateľa Tucka. Dawson žije sám, pracuje na ropných plošinách v mori a tajne podporuje rodinu, ktorú nechtiac pripravil o otca. Amanda je vydatá, matka dvoch detí, ale jej vzťah s manželom alkoholikom, poznačený smrťou malej dcérky, stroskotal. Príležitosť zmeniť doterajší život je na dosah ruky... Ale je to ešte možné? Dá sa prepísať minulosť? A je láska naozaj to najcennejšie, čo môže človek darovať? (TV JOJ)
