Adaptácia románu Ernesta Hemingwaya sa odohráva v 30-tych rokoch 20. storočia počas občianskej vojny v Španielsku. Mladý dobrodružný hrdina Robert Jordan sa pridáva na stranu povstalcov, ktorí pripravujú sabotážnu akciu a chcú vyhodiť do povetria most. Skrývajú sa vysoko v horách, v jaskyni. Ich vodcom je charizmatická Pilar, ktorá dokáže predpovedať budúcnosť. Robert sa rozhodne noc pred akciou stráviť pod holým nebom a za týchto turbulentných okolností sa zbližuje s mladučkou Máriou. Film bol ocenený dvoma Zlatými glóbusmi a jedným Oscarom. (STV)
