Paní Brisbyová je vdova po Jonathanovi Brisbym. Když její syn Timmy onemocní zápalem plic, vydává se paní Brisbyová pro pomoc za panem Agesem. Ten jí dá lék a také jí poradí, že Timmy nesmí minimálně měsíc z postele. Jenže den přesunu je již blízko a vzhledem k Timmyho zdravotnímu stavu nemůže paní Brisbyová riskovat a přesunout svou rodinu. Velká sova jí poradí, aby vyhledala krysy pod růžovým keřem. Krysy, stranící se ostatním tvorům, jí pomohou přesunout její domov a ona se dozví tajemství o NIMH. Paní Brisbyová potkává nové přátele a také v sobě objeví důležitou vlastnost - statečnost, která jí pomůže překonat všechny překážky. (ČSFD)
