V roce 1999 hrozí pádem na zeměkouli indický atomový satelit, obíhající nad zemí. Mladá žena, která vůbec nevnímá hrozící katastrofu, jede za velmi neobvyklých náhod přes Paříž do Moskvy, Číny, San Francisca a až na "konec světa", do Austrálie. Styl filmu je kombinací road-movie, love-story a science-fiction. Scénárista Peter Carey dvakrát obdržel britskou Booker Prize za své romány Oscar and Lucinda a True History of the Kelly Gang.
