Humorná dobrodružství anglického domovníka v americké rodině.
Seriál se zaměřuje na rodinu Owensových, která žije na předměstí Pittsburghu. George Owens je sportovní novinář, jeho manželka Marsha je v domácnosti a zároveň studuje práva. Mají tři děti, 16-letého Kevina, 14-letou Heather a 8-letého Wesleyho. Děj začíná v okamžiku, kdy Marsha nezvládá domácnost a zároveň studium. Rodina tedy podá inzerát na hospodyni. Přihlásí se pan Lynn Belvedere, jehož předchozím zaměstnavatelem byl mimo jiné i Winston Churchill. Přes počáteční rozpaky George a Marshy se Lynn stává důležitým členem rodiny.
