Raz do roka sa americké ulice vždy na dvanásť nočných hodín premenia na peklo. Nepracuje ani jedna zo zložiek záchranného systému a všetky zločiny, vrátane tých najťažších, sú úplne legálne. Táto brutálna noc sa volá Očista. Vo chvíli, keď sa rozoznejú spásne sirény, všetky peklo razom končí, pozbierajú sa ranení a mŕtvi, opravia sa škody a ide sa ďalej. Pokiaľ sa však niekto nerozhodne pokračovať bez ohľadu na následky… Spojené štáty sa menia na peklo, v ktorom bojujú všetci proti všetkým, a kto chce prežiť, musí mať buď lepšie nabité, alebo využiť krátke okno, počas ktorého necháva dobrotivá mexická vláda otvorené hranice americkým utečencom.
