Po 18 letech strávených ve vězení se Elwood Blues konečně dostává na svobodu. Jeho první kroky vedou do sirotčince, v němž vyrůstal on a jeho bratr, který již zemřel. Setkává se tam s desetiletým Busterem. Vedoucí sirotčince určí Elwooda za jeho poručníka. Elwood zpočátku neprojevuje velké nadšení, ale nakonec jej vezme sebou do New Orleansu.
