Statočný hobit Frodo (Elijah Wood) si na plecia naložil ťažký údel - rozhodol sa totiž čeliť novej, neočakávanej životnej situácii, postaviť sa silám temna a spolu so svojimi starými i novými priateľmi sa vydať na ťažkú púť za záchranu sveta... Frodo totiž zdedil po svojom najmilšom strýkovi Bilbovi (Ian Holm) prsteň, ktorý ho postaví do súboja so silami zla, reprezentovanými krutovládcom Sauronom. Ten chce za každú cenu získať onen prsteň, pomocou ktorého sa môže stať neobmedzeným pánom Stredozeme... V snahe zabrániť jeho plánom sa musí Frodo spojiť s ďalšími bytosťami, nielen z rodu hobitov - ako on sám a jeho priatelia Sam (Sean Astin), Pippin (Billy Boyd) a Smieško (Dominic Monaghan) -, ale i mocných dobrých čarodejníkov, ktorých už v Stredozemi nezostalo veľa - ochranu odvážnej skupinky si na starosť vzal múdry a obetavý Gandalf Sivý (Ian McKellen); - elfov - ich zástupcom sa stal nebojácny Legolas (Orlando Bloom) -; trpaslíkov - ich česť sa rozhodol reprezentovať večne frflúci, ale inak veľmi statočný a láskavý Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) a ľudí - ich záujmy sa odhodlali chrániť mocný, no nevyrovnaný Boromir (Sean Bean) a tajomný Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen). Spoločne sa vydávajú na cestu, na konci ktorej sa im - ako dúfajú - podarí prsteň raz navždy zničiť... (oficiálny text distribútora)
