Záhadné drama Francise Forda Coppoly zkoumá morální hodnoty soukromí. V hlavní roli se představí Gene Hackman jako Harry Caul, expert na bezpečnost a dohled. Jeho každodenní práce, odposlech, se změní v noční můru, ve které Harry stále slyší něco, co jej ruší v nahrávání mladého páru v parku. Začíná se obávat toho, že by nahrávka mohla být zneužita.
